hasami-porcelain-sugar-pot-in-gloss-gray
Sugar Pot in Gloss Gray

The Hasami Porcelain Sugar Pot in Gloss Gray is a small sugar pot, 3 3/8 inches across and just over two inches tall, made from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and clay and finished in a gray glaze that stops at the edges, which are left bare so the base material shows. Hasami calls the body semi-porcelain, and it combines qualities of porcelain and earthenware. Temperature and humidity in the kiln change how the color and texture come out, so no two pieces are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, California designed the line, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for almost 400 years.

It shares its diameter with the mugs, the creamer and the smallest plate, which sits on top as a lid. Hasami took the stacking idea from jubako, the tiered lacquer boxes used to serve food in Japan.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1527/1715/files/hasami-porcelain-sugar-pot-in-gloss-gray-kanso-4627741.jpg?v=1791495667
