A blend of crushed Amakusa stone and porcelain clay, fired with iron-rich pigment carried through the body and finished unglazed. Made in Hasami, Japan.
The Hasami Porcelain Tall Bowl in Matte Black has a tall, straight-sided profile that holds depth without tapering at the rim, with a dry exterior texture in matte black worked into the clay body. The dense porcelain resists chipping under daily use.
Substitutes for a deep bowl or low vase
The tall profile suits grain bowls, soups, layered dishes, or use as a low ceramic vessel for cut stems and dry arrangements. Stacks flush with other Hasami pieces of the same diameter; microwave-, dishwasher-, and food-safe.
- Unglazed Matte Black Finish – The dry, grainy surface texture is a direct result of the unfired clay body — it reads as visually dense and absorbs light in a way that makes the bowl recede on the table while the food it holds becomes the focal point.
- Amakusa Stone and Porcelain Clay Composite – The crushed stone content increases the fired density of the body, making the tall walls structurally resistant to stress fractures that can develop in thinner porcelain over time with temperature cycling.
- Tall, Straight-Sided Profile – The vertical walls provide deep capacity for ramen, noodle soups, or grain bowls that require volume without the wide footprint of a shallow bowl — useful at the table and for serving directly from prep.
- Consistent Diameter for Stacking – Formed to the same diameter tolerance as other Hasami pieces, the tall bowl stacks and stores alongside plates and shorter bowls without requiring separate organization by piece type.
- Microwave and Dishwasher Safe – The dense unglazed body tolerates heat cycling and machine washing without surface degradation — the matte black finish does not cloud or streak under repeated dishwasher exposure.
- Hasami Regional Production – Made in the Hasami district of Nagasaki, Japan, where the clay composition and forming process reflect a regional ceramic tradition dating to the early 17th century.
