The Allex Scissors are a pair of office scissors with blade and handle cut from a single sheet of stainless steel, the curve running unbroken from blade tip through handle. Hayashi Cutlery introduced them in 1974, when they won Japan's Good Design Award, and the design has stayed unchanged since. Made in Seki City, Gifu, the center of Japanese blade-making, where Hayashi has worked since 1946.
Inside each handle, an elastomer ring cushions the fingers, so the grip stays comfortable through daily use. The scissors also hold a place in the permanent collection of Die Neue Sammlung, the design museum in Munich, the first Japanese product to earn one there.
