A coffee table carved from solid marble — a thick honed top on broad block legs cut from the same stone, in travertine or Costa Black. Designed by John Astbury for New Works.
The New Works Atlas Coffee Table is built from solid marble, with a thick stone top supported by broad block-like legs cut from the same block. The honed finish is flat and non-reflective, and the stone mass gives the table noticeable weight and resistance to movement. Each piece carries the distinct veining and tonal pattern of the marble block it was cut from.
Travertine or Costa Black marble
Travertine reads cream to sand in tone with linear fossil patterning and a naturally porous surface. Costa Black is dark with fine white veining and a denser surface. Both carry a honed finish — more porous than polished marble, and better at hiding surface scratches. Care instructions for honed stone are included on delivery.

- Solid Marble Construction Throughout – Both the top and the block legs are cut from solid marble rather than stone veneer over a substrate — the weight, temperature, and surface behavior are consistent with natural stone at every point of contact.
- Honed Surface Finish – The honed treatment produces a matte, non-reflective surface that highlights the marble's natural veining without the mirror-like finish of polished stone — more forgiving of daily surface marks and more restrained in reflective interiors.
- Block Leg Geometry – The broad, rectangular legs are proportionally matched to the thick top, producing a unified, monolithic form — the table reads as a single heavy object rather than a top supported by separate structural elements.
- Natural Veining Variation Per Piece – Each table is cut from a specific section of marble, carrying its own tonal variation and vein pattern — the character of the surface is determined by the stone's natural formation and cannot be exactly reproduced.
- Generous Surface Area for Daily Use – The broad top accommodates books, objects, and daily-use items at a scale suited to open living areas where a coffee table functions as a primary surface rather than a secondary accent piece.
- Designed by John Astbury – Astbury's Atlas series approaches stone furniture through the lens of architectural mass — the table's proportions are derived from the material's inherent weight and the visual logic of block construction rather than applied form.
