The New Works Atlas Coffee Table stands like architecture scaled down, a spacious, thick tabletop set on legs solid enough to look like they're actually holding something up. John Astbury drew the design from porticoes and colonnades, building mainly on the archetypal post-and-lintel construction, so the meeting point between leg and top becomes the whole point: each element exaggerates the other, giving the table its brutalist presence. He named it Atlas after the Titan condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders.
Stone versions are honed rather than polished, for a flat, non-reflective surface, and need no added base hardware for stability.
