A low-slung lounge chair with a deep seat and exaggerated armrests, built on a solid wood frame with traditional joinery. Designed by Anderssen & Voll for Audo Copenhagen.
The Brasilia Lounge Chair sits low to the ground on stout legs, with exaggerated armrests that run wide and flat along the frame. Seat and back cushions are deep and softly filled, angled for sustained sitting rather than upright posture. Joinery is left visible at the structural points and finished cleanly across the wood.
Scandinavian mid-century meets Brazilian Modernism
Anderssen & Voll drew the Brasilia at the intersection of two design traditions. The proportions and joinery come from Scandinavian mid-century practice. The low stance, generous armrests, and relaxed posture trace to Brazilian Modernism and the lounge chairs from São Paulo and Rio in the 1950s and 60s. The result reads as a hybrid between an armchair and a lounge chair.
Upholstery and ottoman
Kvadrat textiles cover the standard range, with natural sheepskin available for the seat and back cushions. A matching ottoman is sold separately, sharing the frame and upholstery options.
Audo Copenhagen Brasilia Lounge Chair Spec Sheet (PDF)
- Sculpted Solid Wood Frame with Wide Armrests – The frame's broad armrests and tapered legs establish a grounded, substantial presence — the wood structure is visible and proportionally significant, not subordinate to the upholstery.
- Generous Seat and Back Cushioning – The seat depth and back cushion thickness are scaled for extended sitting rather than occasional use — the chair provides comfort over time without requiring the frame to recline or adjust.
- Natural Sheepskin Upholstery Option – Sheepskin introduces tonal variation and texture variation across the surface — no two chairs upholstered in sheepskin are identical, making the material choice as much about individuality as about tactile quality.
- Premium Textile Range for Specification – Available across multiple fabric categories allowing the chair to be specified to an exact interior requirement without limiting material choice to a narrow stocked range.
- Suitable for Residential and Hospitality Use – The construction standard and available upholstery durability ratings support both home and contract deployment without requiring a separate hospitality version.

Product questions
Designed in 2022, where Scandinavia meets Brazil
The Brasilia Lounge Chair was designed in 2022 by Anderssen & Voll — the Oslo studio of Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll, founded in 2009 — for Audo Copenhagen. Its name is not decorative. The collection sets Scandinavian mid-century design against Brazilian modernism, the post-war movement, and the chair is the result of that pairing: the stout, sturdy legs and exaggerated armrests carry a warmth and generosity not typical of Nordic restraint. By the designers' own account, the form came from the mood of The Audo in Copenhagen — its wooden sculptures and welcoming tone pushed them toward a more exotic modernism than their familiar Scandinavian roots. The Brasilia is a contemporary design, and its reference is a cross-cultural idea rather than a single historical chair.
The Brasilia earns its place as a lounge chair with more warmth than most Scandinavian seating allows. It is a genuine armchair-and-lounge hybrid — substantial enough to anchor a conversation area, low and relaxed enough to sink into for a long evening. The wide armrests and grounded legs give it real presence, so it works in the middle of a room rather than only against a wall. With three frame finishes and an upholstery range from bouclé to sheepskin, it can be specified warm or restrained to suit a specific interior. KANSO is an authorized Audo Copenhagen retailer, so every Brasilia is sourced directly from the brand and covered by its ten-year warranty. For a buyer who wants contemporary design with character rather than austerity, it is one of the most comfortable chairs we carry.
From oak and bouclé to walnut and sheepskin
Every Brasilia is built on the same structure: a solid FSC-certified wood frame with stout legs made using traditional joinery, over a steel-tube and plywood seat carrying cold-cured foam. What changes is the frame wood and the upholstery. Natural oak and dark-stained oak sit at the base of the range, while oiled walnut, a denser timber with a deeper grain, is the step up. The Audo Bouclé is the entry textile, a soft woven surface in a warm palette; Baru carries more visible texture; natural sheepskin is the most tactile, a high-pile surface that varies in tone across the hide, so no two sheepskin chairs are quite alike. Frame and upholstery are specified independently, so the chair can be set light or dark, plain-woven or deep-piled, without changing the form underneath.
