Bowl in Black

Sale price$16

The Hasami Porcelain Bowl in Black sits low and open in a matte black finish, sized to double as a serving bowl or to sit beneath a matching Hasami plate used as its lid. A matte black glaze is fired over the dense Amakusa pottery stone and clay body, giving the surface a flat, light-absorbing finish rather than a raw clay one. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed the piece as part of Hasami Porcelain's stacking tableware system, made in the town of Hasami in Nagasaki Prefecture, where porcelain production dates back nearly 400 years.

  • Low, open profile sized to pair with a matching Hasami Plate as a lid
  • Matte black glaze fired over a dense Amakusa pottery stone and clay body
  • Flat, light-absorbing finish rather than a glossy one
  • Dense body resists chipping under daily use
  • Shares stacking diameters with other pieces in the Hasami system
  • Designed by Takuhiro Shinomoto for Hasami Porcelain
  • Handcrafted in Hasami, Japan
