Hasami Porcelain Mid Deep Round Bowl in Natural

The Hasami Porcelain Mid Deep Round Bowl in Natural is a rounded bowl just under three inches tall, between the round and deep round bowls in depth, made from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and clay and fired unglazed, so the stone-and-clay body itself is the surface you see and hold. Hasami calls the body semi-porcelain, and it combines qualities of porcelain and earthenware. Temperature and humidity in the kiln change how the color and texture come out, so no two pieces are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, California designed the line, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for almost 400 years.

Two sizes, and each shares its diameter with a Hasami plate, which sits on top as a lid, and with the other bowls of that size, so a set stores as one stack. Hasami took the stacking idea from jubako, the tiered lacquer boxes used to serve food in Japan.
