Hasami Porcelain Mug – Unglazed Amakusa Stone and Porcelain Clay, Raw Textured Grip, Dishwasher-Safe
Crushed Amakusa Stone and Porcelain Clay, Made in Hasami, Japan
The Hasami Porcelain Mug is made in Hasami, Japan from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and porcelain clay. The matte, unglazed exterior has a textured surface that provides secure grip without a rubberized or coated finish. The form is straight-sided and cylindrical with no taper.
Dishwasher-Safe Unglazed Porcelain with Modular Stacking
The Hasami Porcelain Mug is microwave- and dishwasher-safe, and food-safe; the dense body withstands repeated thermal cycling without surface degradation. The mug stacks flush with other Hasami pieces of the same diameter across the full ceramic and wood range. The matte surface develops a natural patina with regular use.
- Unglazed matte exterior – The bare porcelain-clay surface creates a dry, tactile grip that feels distinctly different from glazed ceramics — it warms to the hand quickly and improves its hold as the piece ages.
- Custom porcelain-clay body – A denser formulation than standard stoneware, it holds heat longer in the hand and resists the micro-fractures that develop in lighter clay bodies after repeated thermal cycling.
- Subtle lip detail – A slight outward curve at the rim directs liquid cleanly and prevents the flat-edged drip common on straight cylindrical mugs.
- Cylindrical stackable form – Straight sides stack without shifting and align flush with coordinating Hasami bowls, plates, and trays — practical for compact storage and for building a cohesive table setting over time.
- Microwave- and dishwasher-safe firing – Despite the unglazed finish, the clay body is fired to withstand repeated machine washing and microwave use without surface degradation or moisture absorption.
- Produced in Hasami, Nagasaki – The region's ceramic infrastructure — its specific clay deposits, multi-generational kiln knowledge, and production standards — is the direct source of the consistency and finish quality this mug holds at scale.
