A matte, unglazed mug with a raw, stone-like surface that warms to the hand, made in Hasami, Japan from Amakusa porcelain stone and clay.
The Hasami Porcelain Mug in Natural is fired without glaze, so the bare porcelain-clay body stays exposed. The surface is dry and fine-textured, with a grip that smooth glazed ceramics don't have, and it develops character as it ages. The dense Amakusa-stone body gives the mug real weight, and a rim that resists chipping under daily use.
Part of a system, not a single piece
Every Hasami piece of the same 3.4-inch diameter stacks flush — bowls, plates, and the wood lid that doubles as a cover or coaster. Start with one and you are starting a set that grows without ever looking mismatched. Microwave-, dishwasher-, and food-safe.
- Unglazed matte exterior – The bare porcelain-clay surface creates a dry, tactile grip that feels distinctly different from glazed ceramics — it warms to the hand quickly and improves its hold as the piece ages.
- Made in Hasami, Nagasaki — a porcelain region in Japan with a centuries-old kiln tradition, working the local Amakusa stone.
