Hasami Porcelain Round Bowl in Natural

The Hasami Porcelain Round Bowl in Natural is a wide, rounded bowl about two inches deep, made from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and clay and fired unglazed, so the stone-and-clay body itself is the surface you see and hold. Hasami calls the body semi-porcelain, and it combines qualities of porcelain and earthenware. Temperature and humidity in the kiln change how the color and texture come out, so no two pieces are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, California designed the line, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for almost 400 years.

Three sizes, holding roughly 12, 24 and 32 ounces, and each shares its diameter with a Hasami plate, which sits on top as a lid, and with the other Hasami bowls of that size, so a set stores as one stack. Hasami took the stacking idea from jubako, the tiered lacquer boxes used to serve food in Japan.

Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery for items unused and in their original packaging, including all inserts and protective materials.
