Hasami Porcelain Tall Tea Pot in Black

The Hasami Porcelain Tall Tea Pot in Black is a tall, narrow teapot that holds about 17 ounces and comes with a stainless steel strainer. It is made from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and clay and colored with pigment in a muted matte black, with the edges left bare so the base material shows. Temperature and humidity in the kiln change how the color and texture come out, so no two pieces are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, California designed the line, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for almost 400 years.

At 3 3/8 inches across it shares its diameter with the mugs, the sugar pot and creamer, so the tea service stacks and stores together. Hasami took the stacking idea from jubako, the tiered lacquer boxes used to serve food in Japan.
