Description

A lounge chair built around exposed mortise-and-tenon joinery: the wood-joint detail visible at every leg-to-frame junction. Designed by Omayra Maymó for New Works.

The New Works Tenon Lounge Chair is named for the joinery technique that defines its appearance. Mortise-and-tenon joints, where a shaped tongue seats into a corresponding socket, are left exposed at the visible frame intersections with no metal hardware or hidden fasteners doing the structural work. The joint carries the load and defines the appearance. Designed by Omayra Maymó, who developed the chair around the joinery rather than concealing it.

Solid oak frame, veneer-finished curves

Straight structural members are built from solid oak; curved frame components carry an oak veneer finish over a shaped core. The grain is matched across solid and veneered surfaces so the wood reads as continuous around the frame.

Plush foam seat with multiple upholstery options

The seat and back carry plush foam cushioning over the oak frame, available in a range of fabric upholstery options. The back remains an exposed wood frame, keeping the joinery visible even when the chair is dressed.
