A high-pile shag rug in undyed New Zealand wool, designed in Stockholm by Nordic Knots and handmade in India. GoodWeave certified.
The Nordic Knots Fields Shag Rug takes its tones from the wheat fields of southern Skåne across a summer. Dusty white when the crop first rises, sand at peak season, muted grey by summer's turn. The undyed fibers carry that range naturally, so color comes from the wool itself rather than from dyeing or finishing. Each rug holds a different distribution of tones across the field.
Pile retention and shedding
The wool resists matting and recovers after compression rather than flattening permanently, holding the high-pile height under regular foot traffic. Shedding occurs during an initial break-in period and reduces with regular use; this is normal for high-pile wool construction.
- High-Pile Shag Construction – The long, loosely structured wool fibers create a deep, soft surface that is noticeably more yielding underfoot than cut-pile or looped rugs — suited for living rooms and bedrooms where tactile comfort is a priority.
- Undyed New Zealand Wool – No synthetic dyes are used — the tonal range from dusty white to sand and muted grey comes entirely from natural fiber variation within the wool, which means the color is inherent to the material rather than applied to it.
- Acoustic Softness – The high, loose pile absorbs more ambient sound than denser constructions, reducing echo and softening the acoustic character of rooms with hard flooring, high ceilings, or large glass surfaces.
- Natural Tonal Shifts Across the Surface – Subtle variation in fiber shade across the rug creates quiet depth that reads differently depending on light direction — the surface is never uniformly flat in color, even within a single colorway.
- Small-Batch Handwoven Production – Limited quantities allow close control over pile consistency and fiber selection, resulting in a more uniform surface than mass-produced shag rugs where pile height and density can vary across the width.
- Long-Term Material Integrity – Natural wool is inherently durable and self-cleaning to a degree — lanolin content repels surface soiling, and the undyed fibers do not fade the way dyed shag rugs can under direct light over time.
