Audo Copenhagen Plinth Collection

The Plinth collection was designed by Norm Architects for Audo Copenhagen, and it is the series the brand is best known for. Each piece reads as one continuous block of stone rather than an assembly of panels. The podiums and the coffee table are built from 18 mm marble slabs joined at mitred 45-degree corners over a hollow core, which is what allows a piece this size to be repositioned by one person. The marble is honed rather than polished and finished with a sealant that guards against staining and liquid absorption. Every piece is hand-finished in a small Portuguese workshop rather than machined from solid stone.

KANSO is an authorized U.S. retailer for the full Plinth collection, with insured delivery on every order and white glove service available on the larger pieces.

Plinth Coffee Table

The Marble Plinth Coffee Table, Low is the widest piece in the series and the one most people come to the collection for. It sits low against a sofa with the same mitred construction as the podiums, so the grain runs uninterrupted around each corner. It is offered in Nero Marquina, Carrara, Calacatta Viola, and Kunis Breccia marble, from $2,350.

Plinth Podiums, Cubic and Tall

The Marble Plinth, Cubic is a sharp-edged cube that works as a side table, a seat, or a stand for a lamp or a sculpture. The Marble Plinth, Tall takes the same footprint upward into a slender column, sized to sit beside a chair or hold a single object at eye level. Both are hollow-cored beneath a honed marble shell and both start at $1,678. Cubic is available in Calacatta Viola, Brown Grey, Black, and White marble; Tall in Calacatta Viola, Black, and White.

Plinth Pedestal

The Plinth Pedestal raises a single object to eye level on a slender column, 29.5 inches tall on an 11.8 inch square footprint. It is built the same way as the podiums, hollow beneath a honed marble shell and hand-assembled in Portugal, so it moves with one person despite its height. Offered in Calacatta Viola, Kunis Breccia, Nero Marquina, Carrara, and Grey Kendzo, from $1,815.

Plinth Bridge

The Plinth Bridge is the piece that turns the collection into a system. Its long low form spans the gap between two Plinth podiums to make a bench or a low console, and it stands on its own as a console when it is not bridging anything. Five marble plates are mitred at forty-five degrees and set over a plywood base fitted with adjustable glides, so it levels on an uneven floor. Offered in Calacatta Viola, Kunis Breccia, Nero Marquina, Carrara, and Grey Kendzo, from $2,188.

Marble Finishes

Five marbles run through the collection, and they behave differently. Carrara is the pale grey-veined stone most people picture. Nero Marquina is near-black with sharp white veining. Calacatta Viola carries purple and rust veining that varies noticeably piece to piece, which is a property of the stone rather than a defect. Kunis Breccia is warmer and more fragmented, and Grey Kendzo sits between the two. Because each slab is cut from a different block, no two pieces match exactly. Order a stone and marble swatch before committing if the room has strong directional light.
