The Hasami Porcelain Mug in Gloss Gray is a blend of crushed Amakusa pottery stone and clay under a glossy gray glaze that stops short of the rim and the foot, leaving both bare so the raw porcelain shows against the shine. It is smooth in the hand where the glaze runs, and the clay body is only felt at the unglazed edges. The glaze reacts with the clay in the kiln, and the color and texture that come out differ a little from mug to mug; no two are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed it in Venice, California in 2010, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for four centuries.
Every Hasami piece of the same diameter stacks with the mug: the small plate, which also sits on top as a lid to keep a drink warm, the tall bowl, the sugar pot and creamer, and the ash wood tray that doubles as a lid or a coaster. One mug is the start of a set, and the whole set stores as a single stack.

I ordered two sets of the gray mugs & the mugs are just gorgeous! We use all three sizes depending on the drink & we love the mugs! It is so convenient that the mugs stack on top of each other which saves cupboard space & I have received many, many compliments on them! I highly recommend the mugs & the service at Kanso!!

Incredible mug. I immediately bought four plates and two more mugs. I am determined to replace all of my dishes with Hasami porcelain. KANSO is a solid way to do that.
Earthy, elegant, and light weight. The mix of glaze and unglazed lip are quite unique. My only nit pick is that it is 15oz vs 16 oz. I prefer a 16oz coffee cup. That allows enough room for the prefect combo of coffee with cream for me personally. I have two of these. I have the brown unglazed version of the same. I like them both.

One of two Hasami mugs I purchased and love both. This one in the glossy finish perhaps a little more as the finish is lovely to touch - smooth and gleams but in a natural way that still feels handmade if that makes sense!
