Hasami Porcelain Plate in Black – Modular Japanese Tableware with Matte Finish
Dense Porcelain with Subtle Texture
Made in Nagasaki, the Hasami Porcelain Plate is formed from a blend of crushed Amakusa stone and traditional clay, creating a dense body with a dry, matte surface. The rim is kept thin and even, and the proportions are sized to stack flush with other pieces in the Hasami collection without additional clearance.
Stackable Design for Daily Use
Designed for everyday function, the plate is microwave- and dishwasher-safe and nests cleanly with other Hasami pieces. Its flat profile allows it to double as a lid for coordinating bowls or serve as a coaster for mugs, reinforcing the collection’s modular, space-efficient system.
- Amakusa Stone and Clay Body – Crushed Amakusa stone is blended into the clay before firing, producing a denser, more durable body than standard porcelain that resists chipping at the rim under daily handling.
- Matte Black Unglazed Surface – The dry, unglazed finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, making food colors read clearly against the surface — particularly useful for lighter foods that would recede on a white plate.
- Flat Lid-Compatible Profile – The plate's flat surface and consistent diameter allow it to sit flush on top of Hasami bowls of matching size, functioning as a lid for storage or serving without requiring a separate cover.
- Precision Rim Geometry – The clean, straight edge is formed to stack without the rocking or tipping that affects plates with uneven bases — relevant when storing multiple plates in a column in compact kitchen spaces.
- Microwave and Dishwasher Safe – The dense body tolerates repeated heat cycling without warping, and the unglazed surface does not degrade in the dishwasher the way some matte glazes do over extended use.
- Nagasaki Production – Made in the Hasami region of Nagasaki, Japan, where ceramic production has been continuous since the 17th century, giving the material and forming techniques a deep regional context.
