—Description & details
The Hasami Porcelain Plate in Natural is a blend of crushed Amakusa pottery stone and clay, fired unglazed, so what you touch is the material itself: matte, lightly textured, sleeker than earthenware but with a texture that ordinary porcelain does not have. The weather, the mineral content of the clay, and the reactions inside the kiln leave each one a little different in color and texture, so no two are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed it in Venice, California, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for four centuries.
Six sizes, from a saucer under six inches to a platter near twelve, and each shares its diameter with the rest of the line, so a plate sits on the matching bowl as a lid or under a teapot as a trivet. The edges are formed to stack without rocking.
