Hasami Porcelain Plate – Stackable Japanese Plate with Matte Finish
Matte Porcelain with Clean Geometry
Made from a blend of Amakusa stone and porcelain clay, the Hasami Porcelain Plate features a dense body with a matte surface and subtle natural variation. Its flat profile and precise rim keep the form functional and unornamented.
Modular Design for Everyday Use
Microwave- and dishwasher-safe, the plate is designed for daily routines. It stacks neatly with other Hasami pieces, functions as a lid for bowls of the same diameter, and works equally well as a coaster for mugs, reinforcing the collection's modular, space-efficient system.
- Amakusa Stone and Clay Composite Body – The Amakusa stone component increases the density and impact resistance of the fired body, making the rim and base less prone to chipping compared to standard porcelain plates of similar weight.
- Natural Matte Surface with Subtle Variation – The unglazed finish allows slight tonal variation between pieces — a characteristic of the material and firing process rather than a defect, giving each plate a distinct surface without deviating from the overall system.
- Lid-Function Flat Profile – The plate's diameter is coordinated with Hasami bowl sizes so it can rest flush on top as a lid — useful for covering food during prep or at the table without needing a separate lid piece.
- Stacking Rim Tolerance – The rim is formed to a consistent height and angle so plates stack without shifting or tilting — relevant in households where multiple plates are stored in a column rather than on open shelving.
- Microwave and Dishwasher Safe – The dense body handles repeated heat exposure without warping, and the matte unglazed surface does not degrade or cloud under dishwasher conditions the way some fired matte glazes can.
- Hasami Region Production – Produced in Hasami, Nagasaki — a region with an unbroken tradition of porcelain production since the early 17th century — using clay compositions and forming methods developed over generations of local craft.
